How to wear stripes without looking like a milkmaid!

Now is the time to embrace the stripes, yes they are still IN!
If you haven't all ready noticed the models have been hitting the runways this month for fashion week, in what is known as The Big Four: fashion capitals of the world. Do you know which capitals they are ?
I hope you do! But not to worry if you don't, as I will give you a hand.
There are quite a few cities which could make a great influence on the world of fashion, but the most important fashion capitals there are four which undeniably rule all: the Big Four of fashion. LondonParis, Milan and New York.

These Cities enlighten us every year with our fashion fix and the up and coming trends, but like I said above.. Stripes are still in!!

A designer who really pushed the stripes through his Spring Summer collection this season was, Han Chong the designer for Self-Portrait. There were vibrant suits that opened the show, and he also introduced a striped open-knit dress, with flat fringe-like strips along the bottom. Playing with different prints and textures, this collection brought an element of fun, mixed with the fabulosity of the late Seventies/early Eighties. Take a look at the full collection here on ELLE.

So if you feel like being bold and channelling those stripes, but you are worried you may look like the milkmaid or milkmen. Well fear not, I have some quick tips to get you looking cool and chic.

  1. Style your stripes with a pair of pumps, this will create that edgy effortless cool look.
  2. If styling a striped dress add a high-waisted belt to break it up, or look for a dress that has a wrap around bow, like the one shown in my pictures. This will then add some shape and detailing to your outfit.
  3. If you are channelling a strip suit, pair a bold coloured T-shirt or polo neck underneath. You could either match one of the stripe colours on your suit or use an opposite colour.
  4. Try sticking to wearing white shoes, pumps, boots or a heel. The white will bounce of the stripes and give more power to your look.
  5. Always add a pair of sunnies, you can't go wrong here they make every outfit look cool.
  6. Add a cute handbag, not to big keep it small. You will be rocking a bold striped outfit so a small bag would fit perfectly, you don't want to be too OTT on us now do you!
  7. Wear simple jewellery, personally I would stick to a slick watch and nothing else.
  8. FINALLY.. Be confident. To pull of a bold stripe dress or suit you just need to own it. Wear it proudly, I mean who wants to blend in anyway!

We all know how hit and miss the weather can be, especially here in England. So to save myself from freezing I paired the dress with a red puffer jacket, the colour works well with orange and wearing a short jacket will still show off the dress. You can also read my blog post about puffer jackets here how to style and wear the puffer jacket
